The main tasks of the department:

- Collection and systematization of geological materials based on the results of thematic and exploration works;

- Collection, accounting, systematization, processing, and analysis of data on prices and conditions in the world market;

- Characteristics of the current state of mineral resources and the mining industry in the world;

- Assessment of the features and prospects for the development of the mineral resource base in Uzbekistan;

- Analysis of the level of consumption, extraction, import, and export of mineral raw materials;

- Preparation of presentation materials for certain types of minerals localized in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

- Database maintenance:

"Reference and Information Fund" Employees look through all the periodicals coming to the IMR, study the content of the articles, and select documents that meet the needs of subscribers and the subject matter of the work being done. Each selected document is assigned a serial number and entered into a work card, which is the source document for entry into the database.

The database "Geolfond" is formed according to information cards for geological reports received by the State Geological Fund. Information cards are entered in Russian and Uzbek, bibliographic descriptions with search images of documents and an abstract. For the formation of "Geolfond" received information cards are registered, indexed, then entered into the database.

Work results:

- A set of works was carried out, as a result of which scientific and technical information, information on scientific and technical achievements, and advanced production experience were collected, processed, and disseminated.

- To complete the industry fund, a subscription was made to periodicals from Uzbekistan, Russia, and other CIS countries, as well as publications of Aspermont Media Ltd, (Great Britain) on geological topics.
