THE MAIN TASKS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The study of the geological structure of the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the patterns of distribution of minerals in order to increase the efficiency of geological exploration and expand the resource base of the mining industry.
Accordingly, the main tasks are:
Compilation and preparation for publication of the State geological and specialized maps (structural-formational, tectonic, etc.) of a new generation;
Conducting geological, geodynamic, metallogenic and structural studies;
Creation of a model of geodynamic development and ore formation of the folded belts of Uzbekistan with the allocation of favorable geological conditions for mineralization; identification of a complex of unconventional minerals, with the development of criteria for their selection;
Study of the metallogenic specialization of intrusive and volcanic formations and their role in the formation of deposits of gold, copper, and others;
Assessment of the completeness and quality of fulfillment of methodological requirements in the process of geological exploration and control over the introduction of modern scientific developments in the production of geological exploration.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN THE DEPARTMENT
Justification and information support for the organization of geoparks with concomitant monitoring of geological heritage sites of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the development of the geotourism industry.
Development of guidelines for forecasting promising areas in basement rocks (pre-Mesozoic formations) based on geodynamic reconstructions of the Tien Shan orogenic belt on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Creation of an updated geological map of the Republic of Uzbekistan at a scale of 1:500 000 with associated monitoring of known potential objects of national geological heritage.
Creation of a digital geological base at a scale of 1:200 000 in GIS format for multifunctional integrated rational nature management of the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

RESEARCH RESULTS
An updated geological map of the Republic of Uzbekistan at a scale of 1:500 000 has been prepared for publication based on mobilist ideas.
Prospective areas have been identified for setting up exploration work for gold and copper mineralization.
Monitoring of geological heritage sites was carried out, for which passports were drawn up according to UNESCO requirements.
