THE MAIN TASKS OF THE DEPARTMENT
Geological and economic analysis of the mineral resource base of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to develop the main directions of non-metallic minerals.
Studying the prospects for the development of a mineral resource base for non-metallic minerals of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Creation of a minerally resource data bank on non-metallic minerals and monitoring on them.
Economic analysis of imported to the republic and exported mineral resources. Studying the needs of the country's economy in various mineral resources.
Determination and study of new types of raw materials and prospective areas, taking into account the world market.
Development of search and evaluation, geological and economic criteria for indicators of reserves of non-metallic raw materials.
Conducting prospecting and calculation of reserves and resources of non-metallic minerals.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN THE DEPARTMENT
In the last decade, kaolins, porcelain stones, barite, minerals of the andalusite group, vein quartz, combustible shales, coals and stone-making raw materials have become new types of non-metallic raw materials studied.
Scientific research has been carried out in the framework of the following topics:
1. Analysis of the regularities of the placement of Phanerozoic minerals of Southern and Eastern Uzbekistan in order to allocate prospective areas for geological exploration
2. Assessment of the investment potential of non-metallic minerals of Uzbekistan and development of innovative technologies for processing non-metallic raw materials
3. Identification of non-metallic mineral objects in demand on the global and domestic market and development of innovative technologies for their effective development in Eastern Uzbekistan
4. Estimating the prospects for the development of the mineral resource base for stratigraphically important, non-traditional and new types of non-metallic raw materials and developing optimal technologies for their effective development within the Navoi and Jizzakh FEZ
5. Assessing the potential for high-magnesia raw materials and reassessing the mineral resource base of gem and semi-precious stones of the Republic of Uzbekistan

RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
The studies of the region on the most important objects such as bentonite and bentonite-like clay, housing quartz, quartzites, ceramzite raw materials, kaolins, dolomites, flux limestones, fluorite, perlite, alunite, diasporas, refactory raw materials, etc., which indicates a large raw material potential, sufficient for the development of the region’s mineral base commissioning their own resources. The quality, scale and economic situation of local objects serve as a reliable guarantor for the possibility of creating and expanding glass, ceramic, porcelain, chemical, refractory, mining, paintwork and construction industries.
